Handmade on Main Street in Pleasant Grove, Utah, Soaplicity started with a family problem. Founder Roshan Richards kept running into allergy trouble with store-bought bath products at home, and she couldn't find anything natural enough. So she began making cold-process soap herself, starting with a bar called Oasis, in her own basement.

Friends asked for more, then farmers' market shoppers did, and the side project grew into a shop where everything is still made by hand in small batches. The recipes skip artificial colors and fragrances, silicones, parabens, sulfates, and gluten, and the products are cruelty-free. Most are water-free concentrates, which makes them easy to travel with. Packaging is recycled, recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable, and even the oils from the kitchen drain go off to become biofuel.
