Back in 1990, a new mom started reading the labels on baby shampoo and didn't like what she found. Jessica Iclisoy had no chemistry degree and no business degree, just hours in the UCLA library and a lot of determination. She mixed her own shampoo and body wash at home, then bubble bath, then hair detangler. Word got around.

In 1995 she launched California Baby with $2,000 borrowed from her mom, debuting Calming Shampoo & Bodywash at her local health food store. Today the company makes its plant-based products in its own solar-powered, certified organic facility in Los Angeles. When it can't find the right supplier, it grows the ingredient itself, including calendula on a certified organic farm in Santa Barbara County. It is a certified Women's Business Enterprise, still led by its founder.

It's a brand that started with one parent asking hard questions and never stopped. From fragrance-free lotion to bubble bath for overtired, cranky evenings, there's something for every kind of bath time, the dog's included.
